Iskut vALLEY HEALTH SERVICES (ISKUT FIRST NATION)
We have worked to assist the Iskut Valley Health Services (IVHS) to develop and update its Five-Year Community Health Plans, starting in 2002 and continuing to today. The planning process has evolved over the years, as IVHS has changed from a Nursing Station under Health Canada, to a fully transferred independent Band-operated Health Service provider under a 10-year block funding agreement with First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).
Developing the community wellness plan includes conducting detailed interviews with Health Staff, Band Council leadership, regional and provincial health service providers, and affected community groups including Elders, youth and targeted users. We build a holistic wellness strategy based on community priorities and emerging trends in wellness needs and processes, and prepare a detailed work plan to improve health and wellness outcomes, integrate appropriate cultural practices, and encourage self-determination and wellness accountability among Iskut Band members and community user groups.
